Monthly Project: Box in a Bag

Isn't this adorable! I don't know who comes up with all of this stuff, but I'm always amazed at the new projects I find after stamping for almost 4 years. This adorable bag measure 5 1/2" high and 5" wide. It's perfect for candy, small lotion bottles, etc. Don't get overwhelmed by the number of steps.

This post will kick off a new monthly feature that will be coincide with my monthly newsletters. I plan on adding a project tutorial each month. The tutorial will have pictures and directions for some type of project. I've only done one of these so far--my bow tutorial back in November or December. So, here goes:

Supplies needed:
Designer Series Paper
Coordinating Card Stock
Bone Folder
Sticky Strip
Round Tab Punch
Slit Punch
¼” circle punch
Mini Glue dots
Ribbon
Paper Snips
Flower punches (Boho, 5 Petal)
Accessories (buttons, brads, etc.)
Paper Cutter with scoring blade


ETA: The best way to print out the directions is to copy and paste the whole thing into a Word Document.

1. Cut a 2 x 11" piece of cardstock.



2. Use the Slit Punch to make scallops on the piece. If you've never done this before, it's easy. Take your slit punch and push it as far as it will go on the bottom edge of the 2x11 piece. Punch. Slide the punch down to make the next scallop being sure to overlap a tiny bit. Do this all the way down the piece of cardstock. When you're finished, pull the resulting two pieces apart.


3. Use a paper cutter to trim 1/4" off the bottom of your scallop piece. Set aside until later.


4. Cut a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2" piece of cardstock from the same piece.


5. Use the Round Tab Punch and punch two tabs from your remaining cardstock.




6. Take the 4 1/2 square piece of cardstock and score 1" along all sides.


7. Cut up to the 1" lines on two sides of the cardstock square. Fold on all score lines.



8. Place sticky strip on the four sides as shown.


9. Take of the sticky strip backing and fold into box shape.
   



10. Cut your Designer Series paper 5-1/2” X 11”


11. Place strips of sticky strip on one long side and one short side of the WRONG SIDE of your DP.




12. Remove sticky strip backing from the long side only. Place the bottom of the box along the sticky edge (starting in the middle of a box edge so the seam will be in the back of the box). You will go all along the designer paper wrapping and adhering the paper to the bottom of the box.


13. Once you are almost to the end, pull off the backing of the remaining sticky strip from the short side. Finish adhering your bottom then adhere your side. Stick your hand on the inside of your box/bag and smooth all seams down tightly.




14. Apply Sticky Strip to the bottom straight edge of your scallop piece from earlier.



15. Take off the backing and line up the bottom straight edge of the scallop piece to the bottom of your box being sure to line up the left edge to the seam of the bag. Wrap the scallop piece all the way around the box.


16. Take the two tab punches from earlier and fold or score them. Use a 1/4" handpunch to punch a whole approximately 1/8" from the fold. Apply Sticky Strip to the back sides of the punches as shown.



17. Remove the backing of the Sticky Strip and Adhere one tab in the center of the front and back of your bag.


18. Cut a piece of ribbon @18" and pull it through the holes and tie a bow.
    
19. Decorate your bag as you wish using various brads, eyelets, buttons, etc.

Lots of little steps, but still pretty easy to make! Now, are you ready for a challenge? Popsicle Cards

I just love these cards! They'd be perfect as invitations if you were planning a summer time party! I used my favorite set from the Occasions Mini catalog--Tart & Tangy. I adore this set! It is so fun and cute. The coordinating Summer Picnic paper is fantastic, too! You have until June 30 to order from this catalog, so be sure to call me if you need anything.

Directions:

1. Cut cardstock to 5 x 4.


2. Score at 2 1/2" and fold over to make the card base.


3. Use corner rounder on 3 sides--go through both sides of the card.


4. Use Scallop Punch on the top righthand corner--only punch the top layer.


5. Cut inside white cardstock to 4 x 2 1/2". Stamp as you like on this piece.


6. Punch the corners the same as the colored piece, except be sure to make the scallop "bite" a little smaller so that it peaks out. This makes it look like your popsicle is a creamsicle! Do the scallop punch while lining up your white inside with the back of the card and punch through both layes.


7. Use Horizontal Slot Punch to make two slots toward the bottom of the right side. Slip your popsicle stick through the holes.


8. You will adhere your white cardstock from above to this side using Stampin' Dimensionals.


9. Decorate as you wish!

Summer Activity Jar

I am so excited to share this project with you! This idea came from a fellow demonstrator named Erin Blair. The jar contains 20 activities--five each in four different categories. Each week, we will pick out one of each category for a total of four activities for the week. Click on the picture below for a better view of the activities I picked. I bought the jar for around $4 from Target. They actually have 3 sizes--I bought the smallest one. If I would have been going to IKEA anytime soon, I definitely would have found a cheaper jar!

I used the Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit to make this project. My tags measure 2 1/2 x 4 3/4". The Designer Paper measures 2 1/2 x 3 1/4". The Designer Paper on the jar is attached using Sticky Strip.

Pixy Stick Holder

Yes, I thought it was spelled "Pixie", but that's not what it says on the package! This is another cute little 4th of July project using my new stamp set, Independence Day.

Directions:

1. Cut one 4 1/2 x 5 3/4" sheet of Whisper White cardstock.


2. Score along the 5 3/4" side at 2" and 4".


3. Stamp as you like.


4. Use Sticky Strip or Tombow Multi to adhere the sides together to make your pocket. Be sure to apply adhesive along the bottom edge.


5. Use your crimper to crimp the bottom of your pocket (about 1-1 1/2"). You don't see the crimping on my example because I can't seem to find it!


6. Use Itty Bitty Backgrounds and a white craft pad to make polka dots on some Real Red and Brilliant Blue scraps.


7. Punch out two stars per Pixy Stick using the Small Star Punch.


8. Attach stars to front and back of Pixy Stick with Mini Glue Dots.


9. Cut a 10 1/2" piece of Real Red Striped Grosgrain Ribbon and tie around the holder.


10. Make a tag using the circle stamp from the set and the 1 1/4 and 1 3/8" Circle Punches.


11. Attach tag to ribbon using a 5 1/2" piece of Linen Thread.

Stampin' Gal Club

Do you like the idea of joining my clubs, but just don’t have the time to make the club meetings each month? Do you want to earn free stuff, but not have to host a party?

How do I join?
Contact me by phone or email to reserve your spot.

Can I take more than one spot in the club?
Absolutely! Many members spend over the $25 purchase commitment. If you plan on doing this on a regular basis, it makes good sense to take more than one spot (each with a $25 commitment) so that you can be hostess more than once!

If I am a member of your regular clubs, can I still join this club?
Of course!

Why do you set the purchase commitment to $25?
Stampin’ Up’s hostess benefits begin with a minimum order of $150. With a club of 6 people, we need each person to spend the $25 so that the workshop order qualifies for hostess benefits.

Why do I have to pick up my things from your house?
In order for each club member to receive hostess benefits, I have to enter the orders as workshop order, which is sent to one address. Because I have customers from as far as Lima, Kettering, etc., I cannot possibly deliver each of the orders without spending a fortune in gas. Plus, a four year old riding in the car for hours is not pleasant!

Club Information

New clubs are forming! Don't miss out on your chance to join a club. If you would enjoy a night out of the house to create some fun and (if I must say so) fantastic projects, club is for you.

What is a club? A club is when a group of 5-8 people commit to spending at least $25/month (before shipping and tax is added). They take turns each month to receive the hostess benefits--at least $15 and a level one hostess stamp set. The group meets each month at my Miamisburg home to make a project. The project could be a scrapbook layout or some cards. It just depends on the type of club. My clubs also swap layouts or sidebars or cards. Swapping is an optional part of club, but most often the best part of being a clubber! Be sure to read my Scrappin' Club Information located to the right under "Special Download Forms."

• I have spots in a Mixed Club that alternates between card techniques and scrapbooking. This club meets on the 2nd Mondays of the month.



• I am also taking names for a Scrapbooking Only club. If you are interested in either of these clubs, let me know asap! Anyone contacting me to join club by the end of June will receive their choice of two stamp sets from my basket when the club begins in August.

Father's Day Projects

I want to share some projects I made for Father's Day using another new stamp set called Dad's Day. Below is a picture frame that I made for Kent. I cut out the large letters from mat board and took Kyle to Cox Arboretum to take pictures. The frame is a $3 frame from WalMart.



These are the cards I made for Kent, my dad, and brother (who we just found out is expecting a son--well, Melissa is expecting!)

Smores Kit

I want to share this adorable project that I am made for my clubbers---a Smores Kit! I just fell in love with this project that a fellow demonstrator shared.

1. Cut two 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" Real Red sheets for the covers. Stamp cover "bases" as desired. I wheeled mine with the Classic Stars jumbo wheel.


2. Cut regular size lunch bag (I found white bags at Meijer) to 4 inches.


3. Cut one 2 x 5 1/2" strip Whisper White cardstock. Stamp as desired. I used the Independence Day stamp set.


4. Cut one 2 1/4 x 5 1/2" strip Night of Navy cardstock. Adhere white strip to this.


5. Adhere matted strip to one of your red "bases". Attach bases to the front and back of your bag. (keep the bag flat--fold the bottom flap back to touch the bottom and you'll be able to adhere the base to the other side.


6. Keeping the bag flat, use the Word Window Punch to punch through both sides for a handle


7. Add some graham crackers, a couple mini Hershey bars, and marshmallows! Yum!

This bag could be used for so many different things--shower gifts, kid's party favor bags, gift bag, etc. It's just one of those projects that can be used for anything just by changing colors and stamps.

Game Time!

We're entering an exciting time of the stampin' year---the retirement list and new catalog frenzy! Stampin' Up! will post the retirement list on June 15. This layout is what I chose to do for my Mega Swap I hosted a while back. There isn't a lot of stamping, but I did wheel the background on the red paper. I just love the Classic Stars jumbo wheel! I've been using it a lot lately. Another thing I use quite a bit is my punches. If you have not tried Stampin' Up's punches, you are really missing out! The punches are super easy to use and don't hurt your hand. This layout uses the 1 3/8" circle punch and both star punches.

Wall Hanging

Wowee! Two posts in two days! I'm on a roll. I wanted to share with you a project I worked on yesterday. I worked on it with the idea that I would do a class in July, but realized with my two week vacation in July, I just won't have time! So, I'll have to save it for another time. But, of course, I expect the Simply Scrappin' Kit to retire, so I'll have to use a different kit. Anyway, here you go:

Here are the layouts for my upcoming Scrap Classes. These classes do not require a monthly commitment--you sign up month to month. The cost of the class is $10 or free with a $30 purchase that night. Grab some friends and join me at my monthly scrap classes!

If you are wondering "What in the world do I do with chipboard?", then you must plan to attend my Chip, Chip, Hooray Class on Tuesday, May 20th at 6:30 PM You will make this fantastic chipboard clipboard (or you can choose a feminine version), a card, and a few individual elements to add to your own pages or cards. You will learn 7 different techniques to use with chipboard!

Your class fee of $25 includes the 9x9 Chipboard Clipboard and the On Board Accents chipboard pack. We will use a few pieces from the pack and you take home the rest. We will be using materials such as glitter, embossing powder, ribbon, craft ink, etc. I am offering a pre-order of two items you will need to work with your remaining chipboard at home. For only $4, you can add one sanding block and one Anywhere Glue Stick to your class pack. Please let me know if you want to add this to your class fee. RSVP and payment due May 10.

Some Changes

A few changes are coming to Stampin' Up! that I want to let you know about.

First, with the rising prices of gas and everything else, Stampin' Up! will be increasing the minimum shipping from $3.95 to $6.95.

How will that effect you? Well, if you place small orders and have them shipped directly to you (Customer Direct order), you will be affected by the change. For example, an order of $30 would pay $3.95 shipping. Beginning April 1, that order will pay $6.95 shipping. Orders over $69.50 will pay 10% shipping.

For those of you who are Workshop Guests or Clubbers, you will continue to pay 10% of your order for shipping, regardless of total.

I've always tried to help people save on shipping by combining their small orders with my own or with my club orders. I will continue to do this. That may mean waiting a little longer for your order to be placed. When I do combine shipping, that will mean you will need to pick your order up from my Miamisburg home. I keep a tub on my patio, so that you can pick up your order at your convenience instead of trying to juggle each of our schedules. But, it's your choice--either Customer Direct or Combined Order (when possible).

On a more positive note, Stampin' Up will start accepting customer credit cards for orders sometime in April. I will let you know when this begins. I have always accepted credit cards, but prefer cash or checks so that I can avoid paying additional fees. But, once Stampin' Up accepts them, I won't have any fees to pay. So, charge all you want! Please remember that I only accept cash or checks for my classes.

I anticipate additional positive changes within the next few months as Stampin' Up! gears up for their 20th anniversary. I'll keep you posted!

Not-So-Mega Swap

Well, ladies, I sent an email about reminders for the Not-So-Mega Swap, but it may have found its way to your spam basket. So, I'll post here.

The due date for the Mega Swap is approaching, so I wanted to send a few reminders about the swap. Please contact me if you have any questions! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I am going to have an Open Stamp Night for friends and anyone participating in the Mega Swap on Saturday, April 12. If you are interested in coming, please let me know by the 10th. Free event---just bring something for you to drink and maybe a snack to share, if you'd like. Time is 6:00 - midnight. We can order pizza if you want!

1. Please put all swaps together so I can easily pick up 2 for a person and move on to the next swap...don't have a stack with the left side of the swap and a stack for the right side of the swap. This confuses things.

2. If you have floaters (pieces not connected), please have them in individual ziplock baggies between the left and right side of the swap.

3. You need to have some sort of layering on the page and some type of embellishment (ribbon, brads, eyelets, embossing, etc.). And of course, ALL Stampin' Up supplies!!

4. Please make sure you do quality work!!! It doesn't have to be super complex, but quality. There needs to be stamping on all pages of the spread.

5. Please, do not plan on making them last minute...make them ahead of time so you have time to deliver them to me by April 16.

French Fry Pouch

These little pouches are so easy to make! You can find folding directions for them by clicking here. Just don't fold down the back flap. I also used my finger to push up the bottom to make more room for candy. Practice on a piece of typing paper first. Then break out that Designer Paper you have stashed and get busy! I plan on making these for Kyle's end of school treat. I used Starburst Jelly Beans because that's the only candy I have, but Runts would be perfect!

Spring Basket

I found the idea for this adorable basket on another blog and just had to make one! I used the Itty Bitty Backgrounds stamp set for the white dots on the basket. This set has been around for a while, but if you don't have it, get it! It is such a great set to have to add a little texture to your projects. Of course, the strawberry is from the Tart & Tangy set found in the Occasions Mini.

Easter Projects

Well, I'm cutting it close, but I am going to share a couple of Easter projects. Exams are finally over and I have some time! I used the set "A Good Egg" for both of these projects. I just love it! The first project is a gift I made for Kyle's pre-school teachers. Look at how cute this is!

This jar mix makes Bunny Smores! I haven't actually tried them, but I hear they are delicious. All you need is a 1 quart mason jar, graham crackers, bunny peeps, brown sugar, and M&M's. You can find directions for it in my Special Download file in the column to the right. I should have shown you more of the jar in the picture, but I focused too much on the direction card instead! Sorry about that.

This next project is a fun little basket that I made for the kids in Kyle's class. I found cute little Play-doh eggs at Target and put one in each.

These are super-easy to make and only use a 6x6 piece of cardstock for the box part.

Directions:
1. Cut 6x6” square of cardstock & cut handle 1/2" x 8"

2. Score 6x6 cardstock at 2" & 4", turn and repeat.

3. Trim the corners off each corner square.

4. Cut into the 2 score-lines on one side of the basket. Repeat on the opposite side.

5. Trim end flaps to about 3/4".

6. Now is the time to stamp your box, if you'd like.

7. Fold all score lines. Flip basket over so you're looking at the "outside". Place two rows of adhesive on both of the 3/4" sides flaps. Then press the first half of the criss-cross piece onto the 3/4" flaps on both si des.

8. Place roll on adhesive on the inside of the other criss-cross flaps and press the flaps into place.

9. Attach handle to the inside of the basket. I attached ribbon to mine first.

10. Decorate as you wish!

Isn't it adorable?! I must admit that the giant egg came from an idea from fellow demonstrator Andrea Walford who sent me a fantastic box idea with the egg on front. As soon as I saw it, I knew I would find a way to incorporate it into my club layout!

My next scrap class will be Tuesday, April 15th. I don't have the layout planned, yet, but I will work on something fabulous! The cost of the Scrap Class is $10 or only $5 with a purchase of $25 or more. Monday Scrap Classes are combined with my Monthly Club gals.

MOPS Crop Information

I want to share a really fun scrapbooking opportunity with you. The MOPS group from the First Church of God in Miamisburg is holding their 3rd Annual Crop on May 2 -3. This is the first year they are doing a two day event.

I have attended this Crop for the last two years, and believe me, you do not want to miss it! They have fantastic door prizes--things like massages, restaurant gift certificates, various vendor prizes, etc! Meals and snacks, too! You share a table with another person, so you have plenty of room for your stuff.

This is an event in which I am participating. I am not involved with the planning or with the MOPS group. I will be there at a booth. I will have my display samples and a couple of make and takes for everyone to do. I bring all of my ink pads and punches and some stamp sets for everyone to use, also. Email Issues

Hi Everyone!

I apologize for not posting in a long time. I've been busy with school and Kyle and I both got sick. Then, Kyle got an ear infection and now he's sick with a stomach flu. So, it's been real fun around here!

I am posting to my blog because I seem to be having email issues. Many people have not been receiving my emails--whether they're replies or new ones. If you have not received a response from me to an email you sent, I want to know that I have actually responded. Please don't think I've ignored you!
