October Scrap Class

Skittles Pouch

This is a quick and easy little pouch that will hold snack size Skittles, M&M's, and Resee's Cups.

Directions:

1. Cut an 8 1/2" x 3 1/4" piece of cardstock. Score at 4 and 4 1/2. Fold along score lines.
2. Use Scallop Edge punch along top edges, if desired.
3. Adhere a 3 x 3 1/4" piece of Designer Paper to the front.
4. Use Horizontal Slot punch or a circle punch, to make space to tie your ribbon through/
5. Embellish with stamped image(s) as you wish.

Pencil Holder

I've made some pencil pouches before that are similar to the pixy stick holder found here, but saw this new version in one of the SU catalogs.

I cut a scallop circle from the large scallop circle die for the Big Shot from the Cast-a-Spell designer paper found in the Holiday Mini. I stamped some images from the Pirate Party stamp set in Basic Gray and Elegant Eggplant ink and layered it with some circle punches. I punched a 1/4" circle at the top and tied my Old Olive 5/8 grosgrain ribbon in a knot. To hold the 3 pencils together, I tied some black gingham ribbon around them. You will want to have your 1/4" hole at the top somewhat close to the top of the pencils so that they don't just fall out of your holder.

On to Halloween Projects!

It's that time of year---fall and Halloween time! I am going to share some quick and easy projects that can be made for your your family, co-workers, or as class treats. I haven't decided exactly what I am going to make for Kyle's class this year. Here's a quick project that can be adapted to any size candy bar.



Isn't it cute?! This is a giant Hershey's bar. I wrapped a 6 3/4" x 8" piece of Cast a Spell designer paper (found in the Holiday Mini) around 4.4 oz candy bar. I adhered it with Snail. Now that Kyle is a bit older, I'm finding that I need more "big boy" stamp sets. I bought the set Just Jawing to use when I thought Kyle was having a Pirate party. It can seem a bit "girly", but you can always cover the heart eyes with punched stars or circles.

I colored the eyes with my Elegant Eggplant marker and then added some fun purple glitter from the Fine Cosmo glitter collection. Just be careful where your glue goes because unlike Dazzling Diamonds glitter, the colored glitter is very noticeable!

Pumpkin Treat Boxes

I made these cute little boxes for my clubbers. It was our last meeting of the round, so I wanted to give them something special. A few of the boxes had prize slips in them---free stamp sets, $10 gift certificates, etc.

I saw this idea for the box on another demontrator's blog, but can't find it now. The box was made using the Box #2 XL die for the Big Shot. I used the Wide Oval punch to make the window and covered it with our Medium thickness Window Sheets found on page 158. I used the Small Oval punch to make the pumpkin and the Swirls & Scribbles Sizzlit for the vine. I handcut the sign after stamping on it with the Sanded background stamp.

Sweet Treats!

I've mentioned that the Holiday Mini catalog has all kinds of great things in it that you will just HAVE to have. One of my favorite things in it is the Sweet Centers stamp set and the Sweet Treat Cups. You can put just about anything in the cups, as long as it fits. I've seen samples where people have actually made water globes with them.

While I love the stamp set and the fact that it takes care of at least 3 holidays, I love that you can use Sweet Treats cups without it. And, you can also use the Sweet Centers stamp set without using the cups!

So, how does it work? Well, you will want to use the 1 3/4" circle punch or the new Stampin' Up! Holiday Movers dies for the big shot to punch out the circle for the cups to fit in. You will want to cover the open back of the cups with either a square piece of cardstock or cut a 2 1/2" circle to cover it (and then trim the excess). Before adhering the cardstock backs, I like to use my Cutter Kit to make a perforated X on the back. This way, the receiver can easily punch in the back to get the treats inside!

Halloween Scrapbook Page

As I was going through my computer files, I came across a picture of this Halloween scrapbook page that I did for a swap with my clubs in September. This layout was inspired by another stamper, but I can't seem to find her name to give her credit. I took her idea, modified it a bit, and turned it into a 2 page layout.

Supplies:
Stamps: House of Haunts, Haunting jumbo wheel, Halloween Frights (Holiday Mini)
Cardstock: Pumpkin Pie, Lovely Lilac, Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White, Ghostly Greetings DP
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Lovely Lilac, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Black
Accessories: Big Shot Top Note Bigz Die, Stampin' Dimensionals, Cutter Kit

Top Note Frankie & Frankette

Oh, I am so excited to show you my latest creation inspired by a fabulous stamper named Cambria! This is a little treat holder. Put some candy in a cello bag and drop it in the box. So cute!


Directions for Face:

1. Use Big Shot to cut two Old Olive Top Notes and one Pink Passion (or other color for hair).


2. Cut the Pink Passion top note in half to make front and back hair and attach to the Olive top notes.


3. Punch two white 1" circles, one olive 1" circle, two black 1/2" circles, and one olive Round Tab.


4. Cut the olive circle in half, sponge with Old Olive ink and the cut in half and fringe to make eyelashes.


5. Cut the round tab in half for nose and sponge.


6. Adhere the face pieces as shown.


7. Use Black journaling marker to make stitches on face and back.

For Box

1. Cut a piece of cardstock to 6 x 10 1/2". I used Old Olive, but you could use the same color as your hair.


2. With your piece of cardstock facing so that the 10 1/2" side is horizontal, score at 4 1/4" and 6 1/4".


3. With the cardstock facing so that the 6" side is horizontal, score at 1 1/2" and 4 1/2".


4. With the 6" side facing up, cut along the score line that makes the skinny rectangles on all 4 corners--just cut to the perpendicular score line.


5. Use paper cutter to cut off 1 1/4" from the top of the skinny rectangles.


6. This step is optional--use scallop edge punch to scallop the skinny rectangles and the top of the large rectangles.


7. Adhere the Top Note face and back to the big flaps of your box. Be careful not to put adhesive where the hole for your ribbon goes or above the hole.
   


8. Fold in the flaps to make a box shape. Add adhesive where necessary to hold box together.


9. You could attach the larger sides to your small box to keep it together, but I used my 1/4" circle punch on both pieces so that I can slip a piece of ribbon in them to tie the box together

I hope my directions aren't too confusing. The box is really easy to put together once you figure it out and makes a fantastic treat holder on it's own without adding the Top Note pieces. I'll work on one to show you soon!

Halloween Big Shot projects

Aren't these projects too cute?! These are two projects I featured at my Big Shot class last night. The ladies made the Owl treat bag and two cards. I'll show those another day.

The Owl uses the Top Note die, the scallop flower from Birds & Blooms, and the larger scallop from the Scallop #2 die, plus the 1/2", 3/4" and 1" circle punches and the small oval punch. The Witch's hat ornament uses the scallop circle from the Pennant XL die and the larger scallop from the Scallop #2 die. So cute and so easy to make.

Dracula Cello Bag

How stinking cute is this?! This Dracula is similar to the Frankie we made at my Halloween treats class last month. My sample uses the 1 1/4" circle punch, but would be better with the 1" punch. I had loaned mine to a friend and had to use what I had here.

Supplies:
1 1/4" circle punch, small flat cello bag, Stampin' Dimensionals, black marker, Whisper White cs, Lovely Lilac cs, and Basic Black cs, White Gel Pen

The Great Pumpkin Take 2

How fun is this?! Last year I made the globe version. Click here for directions for those. I had never seen this kind before. It works great as a pumpkin, but how about as a Christmas ornament? So easy to make---give it a try! I used regular cardstock, but our Designer Papers would be fantastic!

Directions:
Cut one strip 1"x6" (strip A), two strips 1"x7" (strip B), two strips 1"x9" (Strip C), two strips 1"x11" (Strip D). Arrange them in this manner: DCBABCD. Tap them on a table so all of the ends touch -> Staple this. Now just gather all of the tops, line them up, and staple them as well. I cut a 1 x 2 inch strip of Kiwi Kiss cardstock--although, I guess I probably should have used a brown for the stem. Fold it over and adhere it over the top section. I punched leaves with my Wide Oval Punch, cut them into a leaf shape, and adhered them to the side. Finally, I used my Crop-a-dile to make a hole at the top for my ribbon.

Spooky Spider!

I just love this project! The spider is part of a new Decor Elements line that will be available soon. The spider, however, can be ordered now--just in time for your Halloween decorating! I know someone is going to ask me where to get the jar, so I've heard that Target, Michael's, and WalMart have similar jars ranging in price from $7 - $15.

Each month, I will teach you how to make 3 different types of projects that are perfect to make for your co-workers, child's class, birthday treats, etc. plus a card. You will make one of each project and receive the directions you need to make them again on your own. Halloween Baskets

Okay, I said I would post directions on how to make these cups, but I bet most of you already figured out how to make them! Take a 5 oz dixie cup and carefully pull it apart at the seam. The bottom of the cup will come off completely. Use this cup as your template. Trace template on your designer paper and cut out. Use sticky strip to adhere it to a new cup. You will need to trim a little off the bottom. Stamp and embellish as you wish! You can make a handle from ribbon or cardstock, like I've done on these. Handle measures 6 1/2 x 1/2 (black) and 6 1/2 x 1/4" (pumpkin pie). Attach handles to the cups using brads.

The Great Pumpkins!

Don't you love these pumpkins? They're great for putting on a table as a centerpiece or hanging from the ceiling or stringing them togther to make a garland. Can you tell I'm on a garland kick?

Directions:

1. Cut 10-12 1" x 8" strips of double-sided designer paper.
2. Stack them together and use your Crop-a-Dile to punch a hole through all of them. If you don't own a C-A-D, then you need one. Or just punch single holes through each strip making sure to line the holes so they're even.
3. Repeat at the other end of the stack.
4. Cut a piece of ribbon---oh, I don't know how long, I just guessed! Maybe 6-8 inches. Put it through one of stacks and tie a knot at the top so that you have a stem.
5. Thread the ribbon through the other end and tie a knot so that you have a C shape.
6. Spread out each of the papers, make some leaf shapes, and curly cues and you have a pumpkin!

* you can play with the measurements of the strips, but I don't recommend going larger than 9". If you want to make tiny pumpkins, be sure to adjust the width of the strips.

Halloween Baskets

Again with the Batty for You set, you ask! Yes, I just love this set and can't seem to stop using it for all of my Halloween projects. Aren't these the cutest baskets?! They're made from Dixie Cups. Who comes up with these things?!

These baskets are for everyone attending my World Card Making Day Stamp-a-Stack this coming Saturday at 10:00 am. They're a little empty, but that's nothing that a little chocolate won't fix! I'll post directions after the stamp-a-stack, so be sure to check back next week. Wednesday is the last day to sign up for this class, so contact me asap for one of the few spots left.

October Project of the Month

Aren't these adorable! These sucker covers are a really easy treat to make for some special friends. Purchase flat suckers (I found some suckers with skulls and pumpkins on them at a card store by the Mall). Use Stampin' Up's fantastic Scallop punch along with the 1 3/8" and 1 1/4" circle punches and a Halloween stamp of your choice. I used the Batty for You set for these. It is perfect for this project!

Add details with a white gel pen or pierce each scallop with your paper piercer. Attach the cardstock to both the front and back of the sucker with mini glue dots. Add some ribbon and your finished!

Spooky Banner

I got this idea from a very talented demonstrator named Jenn Balcer. I saw her version and copied it as much as I could! What is great about this is that you can make this banner with the left-over letters you'll have from my Fall/Noel Wall Hanging Class in Novmeber. With a few creative cuts, you can turn the Q into an O and use the outline shape of the O for another O.

Popcorn Holder

If you receive my newsletter you have already seen this project, but I need to see how this blogging works! Halloween is a month away! You will want to start planning your Halloween projects. This year I am making popcorn holders for my son's pre-school class. They are super easy to make: take a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" sheet of cardstock. Score at 3 3/4" and 7 1/2". Adhere with the little flap inside. Decorate as you wish! You can buy the snack size microwave popcorn bags from Sam's Club in a pack of 40 for around $8.
