Project Challenge

Retiring Accessory List

Below is the Retired Accessory List. Items on this list are available from now until August 10 or while supplies last---whichever comes first. Stampin' Up! will update the list daily. I will then post the update here on my blog. Items in red are no longer available.

Sneak Peek: Button Bouquet

Aren't these buttons adorable?! These buttons will be available in the new Fall/Winter Idea Book & Catalog that begins on August 11.

As shown in the picture, the assortment includes buttons in the new In Colors: Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, Pink Pirouette, and Riding Hood Red. It contains 30 buttons in five styles (six buttons per style). So cute!

I expect to receive my new catalogs by the first week of August, hopefully sooner! If you would like to reserve a copy, please let me know asap. I only order a few boxes at a time and would hate to run out if you need one. The Idea Book & Catalog retails for $10, but I only charge my customers $5, which is about the amount I actually pay for them. Clubbers and hostesses receive catalogs for free.

Long Notes Money Card

Not too long ago, I attended my cousin, Lindsay's wedding. I needed a card, but wanted something that would hold a check. I decided to use my Long Notes (page 167) to make a money card. You might notice that my Long Note is not the same color as the ones shown in the catalog. That's because this one is from a set we sold a while ago.

I don't have any wedding exclusive sets, so I decided to use the cake image from Year After Year. This set has many fantastic images that you will need throughout the year--a pumpkin, Christmas tree, graduation cap, heart, etc. It will be retiring in August with this catalog.

The fold for the Long Notes is on the left side, so I had to use my Hobby Blade to cut a little slot for my ribbon to go through.

People sometimes ask what kinds of things do I put on the inside of my cards. The picture belows shows the greeting I used from In My Thoughts. I used the slit punch to turn my Long Note into a money holder, so I had to put my greeting on the left side of the card.

Monthly Project: Box in a Bag

Isn't this adorable! I don't know who comes up with all of this stuff, but I'm always amazed at the new projects I find after stamping for almost 4 years. This adorable bag measure 5 1/2" high and 5" wide. It's perfect for candy, small lotion bottles, etc. Don't get overwhelmed by the number of steps.

This post will kick off a new monthly feature that will be coincide with my monthly newsletters. I plan on adding a project tutorial each month. The tutorial will have pictures and directions for some type of project. I've only done one of these so far--my bow tutorial back in November or December. So, here goes:

Supplies needed:
Designer Series Paper
Coordinating Card Stock
Bone Folder
Sticky Strip
Round Tab Punch
Slit Punch
¼” circle punch
Mini Glue dots
Ribbon
Paper Snips
Flower punches (Boho, 5 Petal)
Accessories (buttons, brads, etc.)
Paper Cutter with scoring blade


ETA: The best way to print out the directions is to copy and paste the whole thing into a Word Document.

1. Cut a 2 x 11" piece of cardstock.



2. Use the Slit Punch to make scallops on the piece. If you've never done this before, it's easy. Take your slit punch and push it as far as it will go on the bottom edge of the 2x11 piece. Punch. Slide the punch down to make the next scallop being sure to overlap a tiny bit. Do this all the way down the piece of cardstock. When you're finished, pull the resulting two pieces apart.


3. Use a paper cutter to trim 1/4" off the bottom of your scallop piece. Set aside until later.


4. Cut a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2" piece of cardstock from the same piece.


5. Use the Round Tab Punch and punch two tabs from your remaining cardstock.




6. Take the 4 1/2 square piece of cardstock and score 1" along all sides.


7. Cut up to the 1" lines on two sides of the cardstock square. Fold on all score lines.



8. Place sticky strip on the four sides as shown.


9. Take of the sticky strip backing and fold into box shape.
   



10. Cut your Designer Series paper 5-1/2” X 11”


11. Place strips of sticky strip on one long side and one short side of the WRONG SIDE of your DP.




12. Remove sticky strip backing from the long side only. Place the bottom of the box along the sticky edge (starting in the middle of a box edge so the seam will be in the back of the box). You will go all along the designer paper wrapping and adhering the paper to the bottom of the box.


13. Once you are almost to the end, pull off the backing of the remaining sticky strip from the short side. Finish adhering your bottom then adhere your side. Stick your hand on the inside of your box/bag and smooth all seams down tightly.




14. Apply Sticky Strip to the bottom straight edge of your scallop piece from earlier.



15. Take off the backing and line up the bottom straight edge of the scallop piece to the bottom of your box being sure to line up the left edge to the seam of the bag. Wrap the scallop piece all the way around the box.


16. Take the two tab punches from earlier and fold or score them. Use a 1/4" handpunch to punch a whole approximately 1/8" from the fold. Apply Sticky Strip to the back sides of the punches as shown.



17. Remove the backing of the Sticky Strip and Adhere one tab in the center of the front and back of your bag.


18. Cut a piece of ribbon @18" and pull it through the holes and tie a bow.
    
19. Decorate your bag as you wish using various brads, eyelets, buttons, etc.

Lots of little steps, but still pretty easy to make! Now, are you ready for a challenge? Each month with my tutorial you will have a chance to win a small prize from me by taking part in the Project Challenge. All you have to do is make the project (this month it's this box in a bag) using Stampin' Up! supplies and send me an email with a picture of it. Because it's the first month, I don't expect a lot of participants. So, anyone participating in the challenge will receive a set of 3 cards with envelopes. You have until July 24th to submit your entry. That gives you almost 3 weeks to get started! I will post the entries I receive by the end of the month.
