Christmas Ornaments

Images Copyright Stampin' Up!

We made these Domino ornaments and pins at my Christmas Stamp camp earlier this month. The ladies were amazed at how nice they turned out and how easy they were to make.

Supplies: Dominos (you can often find cheap dominos at discount stores like Odd Lots or Family Dollar), re-inkers or ink pads with sponge daubers, Jet Black Staz-on, Stamps, rubber gloves (optional), embellishments like rhinestone brads, pin backing or magnet, Sanding Block or Rubbing Alcohol, Silver Leafing Pen, Spray Sealant, Ribbon, Mini Glue dots or Sticky Strip

1. Use sanding block or rubbing alcohol to sand away the glossy finish of the domino.
2. Put a small dot of re-inker at the top of your domino and rub it in with your gloved finger. You can vary the shading and even use two colors, if you wish. OR, use sponge daubers and ink pads.
3. Ink stamp with Staz-on and stamp on the domino.
4. Add color to line images with Sharpie Markers, if you wish.
5. Use a Silver Leafing Pen to cover edges of your domino. Allow to dry.
6. Spray with sealer. Allow to dry.
7. Take apart the rhinestone brad and adhere it to the domino with Tombow Multi-purpose Adhesive.
7. Adhere magnet or pin backing or turn into an ornament by adding ribbon along the edges with mini glue dots.

For the glitter tree pin----After I sealed the domino, I used Crystal Effects to add the glitter. Be sure to let the CE dry before you touch it!

These ornaments were made using the On Board Trinkets Ornaments kit found in the Holiday Mini Catalog. This is a really fun and easy way to add some handmade ornaments to your tree. The kit contains chipboard pieces with matching perforated Designer Paper pieces. It makes over 40 ornaments. You can add some zip to them by adding glitter, ribbon, stamped images, etc.

Another easy way to decorate the chipboard pieces is to smoosh them into craft ink. You can then leave them be, or sprinkle some Iridescent Ice embossing powder for some sparkle. Find more ideas for decorating chipboard in this post from last year: Click Here!

Click here for additional ornament ideas. The chipboard pieces used in this post are retired, but you can find similar pieces in the On Board Something Seasonal pack found on page 180 in the current Fall/Winter Catalog.

Big Shot Gift Card Ornaments

What a fun way to give a gift card or cash! Hide a few of these on your tree and watch their eyes light up when they find them. You could personalize them a little more by adding a name or initial on the front. I made these to sell at a vendor fair so I had to make a bunch of them quickly and didn't want them personalized.

Don't own a Big Shot? That's okay--all you need is a circle cutter.

1. Cut 2 circles (or Scallops) from Designer Paper.
2. Cut 1 circle (or Scallop) from cardstock.
3. Cut a piece of ribbon for your hanger--about 5 inches.
4. Attach it to the cardstock circle with tape.
5. Adhere the Designer paper circle on top of the cardstock circle--right over top of the ribbon.
6. Cut one designer paper circle in half.
7. Use glue dots to attach the half circle to the back as a pocket for the gift card.
8. Stamp and decorate as you wish.

Supplies
Stamps: Deer Friends, Heard from the Heart
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Riding Hood Red, Pirouette Pink,
Other: Big Shot Scallop Circle or Circle Cutter, 1", 1 1/4", 1 3/8" circle punches, scallop circle punch, Chocolate Taffeta Ribbon, Stamin' Dimensionals

Come back tomorrow for some fun ornament ideas!

A Christmas Card

Do you have your Christmas Cards finished? Neither do I!!! Every year I wonder how this happens. This year we were supposed to get a family picture taken so that I could put in on my card, but now it's too late, so I'm hoping for one good snow day so that I can get a picture of Kyle in it to put on my cards!

Here is the 5th card from my Christmas Stamp-a-Stack. This is another card that I found while browsing other stamping blogs and forget who it belongs to! I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. I'm a pink-y girl, but don't have the opportunity to use it much while scrapbooking for a boy, so I'm loving these colors---Kiwi Kiss, Pretty in Pink, Pirouette Pink.

This is a great card to make as a Christmas Card because it is super simple and quick! Change up the colors for something more traditional.

The white layer is actually Shimmery White cardstock, which is just BEAUTIFUL in real life. It measures 2 1/2 x 5 1/2. The Kiwi Kiss layer is 2 3/4 x 5 1/2. Add some coordinating ribbon and you're good to go!

This year I am planning to do a version of these photo cards from last year, except I think I'm going to leave off the flap and have the greeting and signature on one layer. I'm not sure which stamp set and color scheme to use, but I'll be working on it very soon.

Now, if only it would snow . . .

Supplies:
Paper: Ski Slope dp (Holiday Mini catalog), Riding Hood Red

Holiday Decor

I wanted to share this project that I finished yesterday. This is a shadow box with the Season of Thanks decor element on the front of the glass. The picture really doesn't show how awesome this looks! My twigs/leaves should be more toward the left so that they don't blend in so much with the words, but they moved. I plan on making a Christmas layout to put in the shadow box so that I can change it with the seasons. I'll share that once I get it finished. I now know what I plan on making for Christmas gifts!

If you've never seen the Decor Elements, be sure to find the link to the special brochure in my right hand column. I can't believe how easy they are to do. The Decor Elements is a line of Vinyl Art that designed for putting on your walls. It is a fast, quick, cheap way to add some decoration to your home.

The Season of Thanks decor elements is available in chocolate, olive, and black and in two sizes---Medium (20 1/2 x 13) and Small (12 x 7 5/8). I bought my shadow box from Michael's last week when they had them 40% off.

Supplies: Season of Thanks decor elements (small/chocolate), Autumn Vine designer paper (Holiday Mini), felt stitched ribbon (Holiday Mini)

Thanksgiving Blessings Holder

I found this idea on another blog and fell in love with it immediately. With Kyle getting older, I really want to make each holiday have a special tradition and I think I'm going to like this one.

This is a Thanksgiving Blessings holder--just like the poem says! I plan on making these for all of my family. Each year I will put them out along with paper and pens. I plan on keeping the previous years' papers inside so they can read what they were thankful for in the past. I can't decide if I want to put names on each of them so they always get their holder back or if I should pass them out randomly and let others read what was written the year before. Decisions, decisons! Let me know what you think by leaving a comment at the end of this post.

You can find a copy of the Blessings poem under Project Directions to the right. Just print it out on the cardstock of your choice. Cut each poem to 2 3/4" x 1 5/8". The next layer is 2 7/8 x 1 3/4". The Chocolate Chip layer is 3 x 1 7/8".

Get a totally different look by changing your designer paper! My first example uses the Autumn Vine Designer Paper found in the Holiday Mini catalog. The other example uses the Hawaii Papaya Designer Paper.

To make the holder:

1. Start with a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of cardstock.
2. Score at 5 1/2".
3. Trim @1" off one end. Then score that shorter end at 1". Round the corners of this flap, if you wish.
4. Add a piece of designer paper to the front--4 1/4 x 3 1/2".
4. Fold back the flap and add adhesive to keep it shut.
5. Now, decide if you want to add ribbon along the sides or sticky strip.
6. If you are doing ribbon, punch 3 holes using the crop-a-dile on each side below the flap and a hole on each side on the flap.
8. Cut a 20" piece of ribbon. Insert ribbon from the back in the bottom holes. Do a "blanket" stitch along both sides. Tie ends across flap into a knot. If you wish to have a bow on front, you will need to make your ribbon longer.

You can always change the size of your blessings holder. The directions I found were 5" wide, but I wanted to maximize the number I could get per sheet, so I changed it.

Holiday Extravaganza

I wanted to let you know that I have a little more information about the secret sale that Stampin' Up! will be offering November 26 - December 1.

There will be a 20 - 50% discount on select product bundles. I don't know what the bundles are and probably won't find out until the 26th, but I bet they will be fabulous!

There will be limited quantities of the bundles, so be sure to check in early and order your bundle right away. You can go to my website to order your bundle and any other products you wish.

Anyone placing an order of $35 or more (before shipping and tax) on my website from November 26 to December 1 will be entered into a drawing for a $10 gift certificate from me (or choose $20 in Stampin' Bucks)! I will randomly draw a name from all who place a qualifying order.

Anyone placing an order of $150 or more (before shipping and tax) will receive $10 in Stampin' Bucks, not to mention the regular Hostess benefits and entry into the drawing!

Stampin' Bucks are coupons that are good towards any used/retired merchandise I have. Check out the link at the top right for a list of available retired stamp sets.

So, be sure to check back here early on the 26th for all the details and get ready to place your order!

Holiday Gift Ideas: Gift Cards

I'm a little behind in sharing some holiday ideas with you! So, let's start with a popular option--gift cards. I love to shop, but it seems more and more people just want gift cards. So, I like to pair a gift card with a small gift like candy. Who doesn't love candy?!

Last year, I attached gift cards to giant Hershey bars for my brother, brother in-law, and little cousins. This year I bought a really cool skull mug from Target for my cousin's son. I will put a gift card and some candy in it for him.

Recently, I made two adorable gift boxes with Stampin' Up! gift certificates for my uncle and cousin to give to my aunt. As you can see, she likes purple! Both of these were really easy. I added a cello bag with candy (Hershey Kisses and Peppermint Patties) along with the gift certificate. The first one is a take off my Frankie and Santa boxes. I followed the directions for making the box (you can find them here) and left off the Top Note face pieces. I finished this one very simply because it was a last minute call and my aunt was coming over for a class and I didn't want her to see it!

Stamps: Floral Background
Paper: Lavender Lace
Ink: Elegant Eggplant
Accessories: big flower from Pretties kit (sponged with ink), half back pearl from Pretties kit, gold brad (behind pearl to hold flower to box), Word Window Box, Small cello bag, Elegant Eggplant ribbon), Scallop edge punch

This box is my favorite! It uses the Top Note die from our Big Shot collection. The top notes are attached to a small paper bag that was cut to 2 1/2". This bag is similar to my Smores Kit bag (find directions here), except that the bag was a 3# bag instead of a lunch size sack. I buy my bags in bulk from Gordon Food Services, but you can find similar sized bags at various craft places.

Stamps: Dreams du Jours (butterfly), Embrace Life, On Your Birthday
Paper: Perfect Plum, Pale Plum, Whisper White
Ink: Perfect Plum, Pale Plum, Mellow Moss, Basic Black
Accessories: Top Note die, 3 # paper bag, 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 circle punches, Scallop Circle Punch, White Tafetta Ribbon, Stampin' Dimensionals, Wide Oval punch

Thursday, November 13, 2008

Isn't he too cute?! I made these little treat boxes for my Club ladies on Monday. This was inspired by a card made by Debbie Schlink. The box is your basic 2-4-6-8 box with the pieces attached.

What you need:
5 1/2 x 8 1/2 Chocolate Chip cardstock
2 x 1 1/2" Black cardstock
3 x 1/2" Black cardstock
Paper cutter with scoring blade
3/4" circle punch--punch 2 White, 1 Chocolate Chip
1/2" circle punch--punch 2 Back
Small oval punch--punch 1 More Mustard
5 petal flower punch--punch 1 Real Red
Sticky Strip
Stampin' Dimensionals

You can find directions for making the 2-4-6-8 Box by clicking here. This is a great box to know how to do--you can make all kinds of treat boxes--change the size of your beginning sheet and you can make various sized boxes.

Once you make the box, just use the punched out pieces and black hat pieces to make your turkey face. I cut the Chocolate Chip circle in half for eyelids and punched them up with dimensionals. The waddle is made by snipping off a petal from the 5-petal flower. Although, looking at this picture, his waddle should be pointing more towards the bottom!

Big Shot Snowman Layout

Oh, I was so excited to finish this layout! This was my swap for my club girls this month. The idea came to me in the shower and I was so excited with how it turned out. The designer paper is from the Holiday Mini. I had to make two different color layouts because I only had a few sheets of the Tangerine Tango. I can't decide which one I like best--Brocade Blue or Tangerine Tango?

Supplies:
Stamps: Heartfelt Thanks---small circle stamp for eyes
Inks: Basic Black
Cardstock: Tangerine Tango (Ballet Blue), Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Bashful Blue
Other: Big Shot Scallop Circle die, Scallop Circle #2 die, Serif Essentials dies, Kiwi Kiss grosgrain ribbon, Earth Elements buttons, Crimper (carrot nose), Boho Blossoms punch, Mini Glue Dots

Some Cards

Last night was my Club meeting. This club alternates between cards and scrapbook pages. Each month we swap pages. For this meeting, I focused on Stampin' Up's fantastic punches. The ladies each made this adorable card that I cased from fellow demonstrator Patty Bennett. Then, they made Artist Trading Cards showing various creative ways to use their punches---Mermaids, Bunnies, coffee cups, etc. It's amazing what people come up with!

Supplies:
Stamps: On Your Birthday, Totally Tabs (on dormant list)
Cardstock: Pirouette Pink, Pretty in Pink, Ballet Blue, Barely Banana
Accessories: Round Tab Punch, Oval punches, Word Window punch, Rich Regal brads, Soft Subtle brads

This card is one I did for a new catalog swap a while back and also used
for a previous Stamp-a-Stack. I love this Deer Friends set. It is a Hostess Only Level 2 set. I colored in the nose with my Blender Pen Riding Hood Red marker. Then I added Crystal Effects and a sprinkling of glitter. The final touch---googlie eyes!

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Deer Friends, Heard from the Heart, Sanded background
Cardstock: Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip, Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, Bella DP
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa
Accessories: Scallop Edge punch, Scallop circle punch, 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 circle punches, white gel pen, Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds glitter, White grosgrain ribbon, googlie eyes.

Halloween Scrapbook Page

As I was going through my computer files, I came across a picture of this Halloween scrapbook page that I did for a swap with my clubs in September. This layout was inspired by another stamper, but I can't seem to find her name to give her credit. I took her idea, modified it a bit, and turned it into a 2 page layout.

Supplies:
Stamps: House of Haunts, Haunting jumbo wheel, Halloween Frights (Holiday Mini)
Cardstock: Pumpkin Pie, Lovely Lilac, Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White, Ghostly Greetings DP
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Lovely Lilac, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Black
Accessories: Big Shot Top Note Bigz Die, Stampin' Dimensionals, Cutter Kit

Introducing Taylor and Scrap Maps

Say hello to my new nephew, Taylor! Isn't he adorable?! He was born November 5. He weighed 9 lbs 15 oz and was 23 inches long! What a little chunk. I am absolutely in love with baby Taylor and can't wait to see him again.

Okay, now back to stamping!

Last month for Club, I planned something a little different for my ladies. Instead of having a layout for them to copy, I gave them a Scrap Map. This is a "map" that gives a basic layout idea. Scrap Maps are great for helping get your creativity flowing and for getting you to scrap out of your box--using a layout idea that you may not normally use.

I showed them my pages created from the Scrap Map, let them choose from some of my retired designer paper and let them loose. I made two samples--a Fall themed one and an adorable girly layout that I don't get to do very often. I'll upload the Fall one later--I'm going to put pictures on it first. I gave the girly layout to my friend Jennifer. Here are some samples from a few of the ladies. There are actually 8 in the club, but two were missing and I didn't think to take pictures until the rest were gone!
